Headshots part 2

Okay, some bigger pics. Yes, they will be edited to remove extra space, fix stray hairs, fix under eye circles, other unsightly things.

I apologize for the lack of lj cut, I can't figure out how to remove the weird Italian pop up blocker, so it won't let me use the cut thing. Boo.

If there are any others you want to see in the bigger format, let me ( Read more... )

In order... migraineladen July 26 2008, 13:29:38 UTC
My favorites are (from top to bottom to create my numbers): 2, 5, 1.

Photos 3 and 4 are overexposed/have bad lighting and won't reproduce well (as in, in any program, you will just look like a bright white blob). Plus, you just look like you're slouching in number 3 (and I also don't love how your arms are positioned).

You can get a decent headshot for a couple of years that you can use to apply for your artist programs from the first three photos that I mention.

I want to clarify about what I mean by overexposed/lack of contrast (due to lighting) in 4. While these are proofs that may be a bit fuzzy (and I know that), you can hardly tell where you chin begins and your neck starts. You MAY be able to sharpen it up a LITTLE, but not enough. When the photo gets reproduced (in programs and such...and keep in mind that it will be smaller), no chin will be there and it will just look like eyes and a mouth sitting atop pasty whiteness. It works for uber-artsy and digital media occasionally, but not print.

Question mrsastrakhan July 26 2008, 13:58:40 UTC
are they sharper than this in real life? On my monitor, they're so soft as to be blurry, and that IS a problem, if so (and the photographer shouldn't be charging you, if that's the case!)

If the sharpness issue is resolveable (and much of it may be, so don't panic - it's impossible to tell from proofshots, and a LOT can be done with Photoshop to tighten it up even if it isn't tack sharp!), then I like 2, 4 and 1, in that order (as Migraineladen, I've counted from top to bottom). As she says, four is indeed slightly overexposed and thus currently under-contrasty, but that can probably be tweaked to add a little more light and shade; your better positioned in the frame in that one. I also like the directness of the eyes in 4; they're both good, but 4 just is a little more alive, despite the slight overexposure.

How many will she tweak and give you as master prints?

I love 4 and 5 -- they're great poses, and your facial expression is perfect on both. And they're especially good with a little bit cropped off the top.
