10. The Lake House (2006) - Kate and Alex
(starring Sandra Bullocks & Keanu Reeves)
The chemistry in this scene just takes you away! I loved Sandra and Keanu so much in this wonderful little film but this slow dance was my favourite scene! Its beautifully passionate and adorable at the same time! Plus this is overall a great film and I highly recommend it!
9. Titanic (1997) - Jack and Rose
(starring Leonardo DiCaprio & Kate Winslet)
#1 on most people`s romance lists then how could it not be on mine ? lol . I must confess though that Titanic is not one of my all time favourite films but this scene had me crying my eyes out! Its the ultimate cheesy romantic scene but its so emotional and sort of gives the movie closure in a beautiful way. Again the score by James Horner is beyond lovely and adds so much to an already great scene!
8. Casablanca (1942) - Rick and Ilsa
(starring Humphrey Bogart & Ingrid Bergman)
Now tell me who wasn`t waiting for this kiss to happen???????? The drama , the tension , the passion....all rolled into one great scene! Wow! I waited and was so happy to finally see Rick and Ilsa share that one moment together! One of the greatest movies of our time without a doubt!
7. Girl with a pearl earring (2003) - Griet and Johannes Vemeer
(starring Scarlett Johannson & Colin Firth)
Who thought that Scarlett Johannson and Colin Firth would have such amazing chemistry ??? Well I sure didn`t !!! 'Wow' is all I can say about this film and about the performances of both actors! There are so many intense moments in this adaptation but this one scene stood out for me! There is no dialogue , no words are spoken - nothing........ just a beautiful moment and gorgeous music by Alexandre Desplat! Plus Colin Firth (even though the hairstyle isn`t his best ;) is b-e-a-u-tiful in this movie........................................... *sigh*
6. A Room with a view (1985) - Lucy and George
(Starring Helena Bonham Carter & Julian Sands)
awwwww!!!!!!!!
Okay this one might not be the most emotional or dramatic romantic scene that everyone loves but its simplicity and unexpected nature is what make me smile wide everytime I watch it! I had not read the book by E.M.Forster before I watched this adaptation so this scene came as such an adorable and refreshing surprise that it had to make my list!
5. The Remains of the Day (1993) - Miss Kenton and Mr Stephens
(starring Emma Thompson & Sir Anthony Hopkins)
This was one film I never thought I would have on this list but I had to because of how brilliant and sad this story of unrequited love is ! The book scene is only scene where we see Mr Stephens and Miss Kenton within inches of each other but nothing happens........
And I`m glad because it would have not been at #5 if something had! Sir Anthony is a genius! His acting is so amazing and controlled especially in this scene that you can`t help but feel his pain and desire! Great stuff!
4. The Notebook (2004) - Noah and Allie
(starring Ryan Gosling & Rachel McAdams )
This movie tops my list of 'Movies I cried watching' . Not only did I cry at this particular scene but I was in tears for half an hour after the movie was over as well! Rachel and Ryan had such excellent and sweet chemistry in this film ! Truly one of the best and most poignant of all love stories and this scene just makes me sigh everytime!
3. Pirates of the Caribbean (2007) - At World`s End - Will and Elizabeth
(starring Orlando Bloom & Keira Knightley )
This scene was so completely unexpected that it really took me by surprise! "It always belonged to you" made me want to cry! Plus Hans Zimmer`s beautiful beautiful piece 'One Day' makes this scene what it is!
Sad but so beautiful and inspiring!
2. Emma (1996) - Emma and Mr Knightley
(starring Gwenyth Paltrow & Jeremy Northam)
The best Jane Austen adaptation proposal yet! I loved Gwen and Jeremy alot in this scene! Its the perfect happy ending where everything goes right. This scene (as well as the entire movie) was well scripted and thats why I love this particular proposal. What stood out for me was that it wasn`t over cheesy and dramatic. It was beautiful and perfect!
1. BBC North and South (2004) - John Thornton and Margaret Hale
(starring Richard Armitage & Daniela Denby-Ashe)
Gosh this one HAD to be #1 ! It just had to! I`m still to watch a romantic scene as simple and perfect as this one. Yes Richard Armitage is 99% why this scene totally works *sigh* but everything else - the limited dialogue , the chemistry and the setting makes it gorgeous! N&S = love!
Hope you liked it!
