The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - my review/thoughts

Dec 20, 2012 03:43

I feel like I'm one of the last few people who finally got around to watching 'The Hobbit' but let me tell you it was worth the wait! The movie is absolutely beautiful and if you're a fan of everything middle-earth you would not want to miss this :) Yes it has been getting mixed reviews with many people complaining about the 'bloatedness' of the ( Read more... )

Oh yes Australia is like among the last few countries to get it. All of my aussie friends are complaining . Ugh but anyway not long now. Just a few more days! :)

Yes more Thranduil plz! He will be glorious!
Yes the Azog thing really bugged me. They've made him almost like a main character and even if we don't see him in the next movie we know we'll see him in the third during the war - thorin vs azog .

*beams* Glad you liked it! Yes, it is not and will not be on the scale that is Tolkien's finished masterpiece, LOTR. A lot of the added information makes sense if you have read the Appendices from Return of the King, Of the Third Age and the Rings of Power (the very last chapter of The Silmarillion) and a nice short little bit of Unfinished Tales "Of Durin's Folk". If you are at all interested, I HIGHLY recommend reading one or all of the above. They are not long and give a lot of insight into what is going on here and what will be happening in the next two films ( ... )

before I go in detail about what I liked and didn't, I have to go rewatch it. Which I plan to do tomorrow. Just wanted to let you know I do have more thoughts on this:)

As for Lee Pace as Thranduil? I was hesitant at first when I heard he had been cast and even the first few pictures released did not completely allay my worry. I mean, I love Ned (my favorite character Lee Pace has portrayed to-date), but the Pie Maker persona could not really compare to an Elven king, much less the leader of the remaining Sindarin in Middle-Earth and father to Legolas. And even though we only get two insanely brief (and non-vocal) scenes with him, I think he will do an excellent job. As for everyone complaining about what a jerk/ insert insulting epithet here ______ he was, I can only say wait for the rest of the story. B/c there is far more to him. And hopefully they show that!!!

Is that what you meant? or looks? Costume design?

ooooh so did you rewatch? :)

Yep that's what I meant.
I've never watched anything with Lee Pace before but I did know that he was in Pushing Daisies and was like -' wait they cast that guy in the hobbit' ? I didn't even know who he was playing but I was confused . I finally saw the first promo pic they released and read the character description and was like okay maybe this could work. I wish he had atleast a line in Hobbit AUJ but yeah so far things are look good and I'm extremely excited for him. Yeah lots of ppl (esp those who haven't read the book) are hating on him for that reason but yep he will be so so good in the next two movies. Also that's his character. He's not Legolas. He's vain and proud but yes the rest of the story will prove him different :)

It is so fantastic that you have seen LotR ! I have to say this first :)

THE HOBBIT - aweugjkdngtjh!!! I LOVE IT! Everything was perfect for me! And to see Frodo again was AWESOME! I love him so much. And the Frodo/Bilbo-begining scene was great. And yes, it is right not to compare LotR and The Hobbit. My Maa haven't read the books, too, and she missed the complex story like in LotR, and so on.

But I know the book (and re-reading it at the moment, and I bought the soundtrack), and aww, I loved every single scene and every single word, lol. ♥

Freeman played so well!! And I love damn epic Thorin! :) And YES, THE MUSIC! And Gandalf!

I just saw LOTR this year and it has been one of my fandom highlights! I was so happy with it that I sat down and read The Hobbit before the movie came out ;) I adored the movie! It was fantastic!

Thorin is the best! Everytime Richard was on-screen it was electric! Martin Freeman was the perfect Bilbo! I cannot believe we have to wait a year for the second movie!
