Fuel Prices went up again. The "Left" is making a big deal out it (as usual). People are complaining that the real sufferers are going to be the poor ( Read more... )

No taxes, more power to local governments to do what they think is right. Less government interference.

I guess it's a sticky situation because agricultural income is already not taxed. I guess it's upto the politicos to figure out a way to sell this to the farmers.

I hope I did. Because in many economies around the world people are forgetting what capitalism really is and why is it that those economies got successful in the first place.

Maybe it's time for India to be really capitalist. In some ways we are, our taxation rates are not as high as in some "free-market states", there are good incentives (in terms of reduced tax) for investing in the Capital Markets. And thankfully we don't have a real public social security scheme in place.

Let's shed the last bit of our Nehru-Gandhian socialist dream. It hasn't got us very far.

You remind me of two Californians,both of whom you happen to know: One who constantly spoke about $$ and kept saying why bribing is better than high taxes, and the other who'd drive to work at 5am and kept saying all govt welfare measures should be revoked. Not surprisingly, they are hardcore Republicans.
