Recently we watched Slacker (www.hulu.com/slacker), a movie which I hadn't seen since 1993. It surprised me. First time I saw it I thought it was entertaining, but I think it's become far more interesting with age. Here's a clue why: when the movie was over, blueswater turned to me and said, "these people were just waiting for the Internet to come along." I ( Read more... )

i loved Slacker, but i haven't seen it in years. I too remember feeling an affinity for these people.

i really want to watch it with Ellyn and get her perspective on it.

not only internet--cell phones and texting. all those characters walking around texting each other instead of just kinda rambling from place to place.

the whole straddling two worlds thing. as i drive around i have been listening to a lot of NPR (i go through stages with NPR...XM radio offers an alternative to either crappy classic rock or NPR) and I feel like the world is just changing so quickly. the world economy....everything seems so doom and gloom. Even though our generation were slackers and kinda pissy i didn't feel that doom and gloom about stuff. there seemed to be some hope there.

We need a film club discussion group to dissect this movie. I might have to start watching it on HULU right now!

I still dress pretty much how I did when I was sort of a slacker. Who am I kidding. I'm still a slacker!

I've noticed that Gen Y has trouble wit the concept of being unreachable, even for a couple of hours. I don't have a cell phone. I have a groundline with VM. I'll get back to people in a couple of hours. Sheesh. There really isn't that whole show up somewhere, park yourself, hope someone interesting shows up thing. Everything is arranged. There is an idea that if you're not available immediately you're somehow being rude.

I can use a typewriter OR a computer.

I found a gen-X icon. Yay Star Wars!
