Yeah, you shouldn't give anything to anyone that harasses you for it.

I do not mind helping people, even people who ask for it. However, when any stranger invades my personal space, I get pissed. REALLY pissed.

I completely agree. Asking gives you the choice to say yes or no. But demanding things or manipulating people into things by making up stories or getting in their space so it's hard to avoid you is harassment in my book.
