Truly walked into the precinct as soon as she released herself from the most recent play she was working on. She glanced around, trying to find Don or Danny or Stella. Someone she could have a conversation without the expected groan she got from her ‘costumers’. Instead she spotted someone she wouldn’t expect to see in a long, long time.
Not if she visited Kansas again that is. Maybe if she was quick about, he’d never have to see her again either.
"T-Pack?"
"Fuck it all to hell," muttered Truly, shutting her eyes tightly and dropping her head. She turned and opened her eyes, smiling brightly at the man.
"Figures," muttered Truly, before giving the man in front of her a wink. "What have I told you about calling me T-Pack, Brian?"
"Don’t remember," said Brian with a smile. Truly flinched at him and grimaced at her memories of him.
"You really should remember. I hit you over it."
"You liked me," said Brian with a shrug, standing up and walking towards her. "All’s forgiven."
"I wasn’t apologizing," said Truly with a disgusted look. Brian didn’t look bad, but he had a reputation that seemed to hang over him like a dark cloud. Brian seemed to ignore her comment and brushed his hand against her hip, pretending not to notice.
"I understand where all that frustration was coming from," said Brian, taking a set even closer to her, practically on top of her. "We were teenagers, you were frustrated," he ran his thumb over her cheek. "I get it."
"Um, okay?" Truly took a step back, but stumbled, finding she couldn’t move seeing how Brian had a grip on her hip.
"I get it," he said again. Truly swallowed, flitting her eyes behind him and locked on Don walking down the hallway, talking to Stella. Brian’s hand took hold of her chin, turning it harshly so she would look at him.
"Let go of me," said Truly weakly, tears welling up in her eyes from the pressure on her jaw. "Brian, please."
"You humiliated me," hissed Brian. Truly’s eyes darted towards Don and Stella, who were both staring at Brian and Truly. She saw something click with Don and he started walking towards them quickly.
"If you don’t let me go, he’ll make you," said Truly, still watching Don.
"Burn in hell, bitch," hissed Brian, his face getting extremely close to hers. Truly shut her eyes as tears formed behind them. She felt Brian being shoved away from her, heard him hit the ground.
"Get the hell away from her," growled Don. Truly opened her eyes to see Don looking at her. "Are you okay?" Truly nodded and dropped her head onto Don’s chest. He wrapped his arms around her shoulders and held her to him. "Who is that guy?" he asked finally.
"Brian Something-or-other," said Truly pulling away from Don so she could look up at him. "I used to have a crush on him in middle school."
"That guy? The guy we brought in as a suspect for a triple murder is from Kansas?"
"He’s an ass," mumbled Truly, dropping her head back down on Don’s chest. "I punched him in the face ‘cause he groped me in the lunch line."
"Lucky bastard," Don muttered into her hair, receiving a jab in the ribs for his statement.
"It’s not funny Don," said Truly seriously. "He never stopped after that. Had it in his head that I loved him. You know, ‘All’s fair in love and war’, he’s crazy."
"Alright I got it. You had a crush on a crazy guy," Truly mumbled something that Don couldn’t hear and asked her to repeat it.
"First crush," said Truly sheepishly, standing up on her toes and kissing Don. She pulled away from him quickly and spun out of his arms, prancing down the hallway towards the elevator, leaving Don standing there with a dreamy-ish look on his face.
"Don’t you hate it when she does that?" asked Stella from behind him. Don nodded, groaning to himself.
"I’ll be back," he said with a sigh.
"Where you goin’?" Stella called after him.
"I’m following her," muttered Don under his breath. "I always have to follow her."
