The pedal that opens my car's gas tank door and trunk broke today. When it broke, it messed up something in the trunk's latch, so the only way to keep it closed now is to have it zip-tied shut from the inside; trying to hold it down and manually lock it shut doesn't work. Also, I'd need a screwdriver to open the gas door and once opened, it sticks out. It doesn't lie flat. Closing it all the way would lock it again and mean opening it with a screwdriver again. Fortunately, I have a full tank of gas because the pedal broke at the gas station as I was there to fill up.

Since this is from a cable system that runs through the (in)side of the car, it takes a lot of time and thus money to fix.

The shop was willing to see me tomorrow afternoon, but Grandma has an important doctor appointment then that we set a month ago so that's out so I have to bring it in Monday morning nstead. They won't know all the parts they need until they look at it, and parts need to be ordered.... I have no idea how long all this will take and how much it'll be. But these are things I need. I can't have the gas door sticking out in a neighborhood of children, and the trunk problem is related to the cable problem. I can't climb into my fastened-shut trunk through the backseat hatch every time I need something in there. It's too dark, too close, too dirty.

What makes this more galling is that I had this problem with the pedal and just the gas door--not the trunk as well--maybe about four years ago, July 2010, and had to pay $380 to get it fixed then. And that time there wasn't a problem with the trunk release as well.

I had no money before this.... But the car is so necessary to my life. It takes me (and sometimes family) anywhere, I feel far less handicapped having it, and it lets me see doctors I wouldn't have a chance at otherwise. And I enjoy driving.
