I hadn't seen the Twitter update -- that is so incredibly sweet! And you're lucky to be missing NBC's coverage. It's spotty at best and downright confusing at worst. I have to rely on YouTube to watch skaters I hear about but who don't make the top ten.
And, oh, Plushenko. He was trying so hard to be Jonny Weir (right down to blowing kisses to the judges) and failed SO BADLY.
I also heard via a figure skating blog that, during the medal ceremony, the camera was largely trained on a pouty Plushenko rather than, you know, the American who actually won the competition? I hope this is not true. *headdesk*
Per a friend's status on Facebook, "Plushenko's outgaying of Johnny Weir is just wrong, OH SO VERY WRONG."
Also, speaking of Plushenko and Putin -- Protests about as Putin backs Plushenko, who was apparently "robbed" of the gold medal to which he is obvs entitled.
Johnny is adorable. Absolutely adorable. I thought he pulled out a pretty solid performance and was sadly underscored, but I really did want to give him lots of hugs after his performance. He just looked so happy. =)
To be fair, I get the impression that Johnny doesn't quite have the same artistic heft that some of the other skaters did, though he's very graceful out there on the ice, but the judges did seem intent on making every possible grade of execution deduction as large as possible. Grr.
Ugh, I am so envious that you don't have to put up with NBC and their ridiculous commentary and endless commercials. I'm pleased that ABC & co are planning to bid aggressively for coverage rights next time around. They better.
It occurred to me then that the U.S.'s approach to figure skating coverage -- only showing the best of the best -- leads to the impression that every senior male figure skater in the world can do triple axels in his sleep. Not so, not so.
This is a really, really good point. And is something that's easy to forget when you're watching. Also, I love Takahiko.
UGH, Plushenko's hip thrusts and the child-molester-esque expressions made me squirm. He needs to sit the fuck down, especially after he called the wahmbulance on Lysacek for not doing a quad.

And I really, really hope that isn't true. I crashed out and didn't see the medal ceremony, but fingers crossed.

Also, how adorable did he look with the wreath of roses on his head in the kiss and cry? :DD
