international relations 101 (classical music remix)

Apr 09, 2008 16:56

So, back when I was writing my International Relations paper, I decided to procrastinate writing said IR paper. Instead, William came up with the rather brilliant idea of setting some major theoretical approaches to IR to music -- classical music, specifically. The following is what resulted.

DO IT. Set protein synthesis to, I dunno, a Tchaikovsky symphony or something. :DD

Mmm. I was thinking G-protein receptor coupling, protein synthesis, DNA synthesis, cell division and DNA epigenetic modification. I dunno?

That said, ooh, guess what? I might - might - get the chance to go to Georgetown this quarter! Although I'm not too sure about it yet because my schedule this weekend is laxer to a limited extent. I'll have to see how everything goes.

...that, erm, sounds good! You lost me with the G-protein bit, though. xD

Ooh, that would be exciting (may I ask what for?). If you do come, let me know. :DD

I have no clue about any of those theories, but that was still an interesting read.

Also, if you'll believe my music prof, the Eroica was as much about a heroic man (himself) rebelling against the musical norms of the classical period as it was about Napoleon. But then again, he also believes that the entire romantic period started with one note in the Eroica. :p

What I've found over the course of the semester is that IR theory is really just one big cult: everyone references each other, you have your grandfathers of IR theories -- but I suppose every academic field is probably like that. x)

Can I take a leaf out of your book and compile something similar for my Philosophy, Media and Social Deviance notes? Oh man...who knew that this could be the "Great Solution" to my study woes?

Also, I wholeheartedly approve of the use of Holst, Stravinsky, Berlioz and Ravel. *Band geek stamp of approval goes here*
