One of the problems in today's multivariable calculus problem set:

The surface of Lake Erehwon can be represented by a region D in the xy-plane such that the lake's depth (in meters) at the point (x,y) can be given by the expression 400-3x2y2. If your calculus instructor is in the water at the point (1,-2), in which direction should she swim so ( Read more... )

props to your prof for creativity. The closest mine ever came to being amusing was last week when the ethics prof decided to analyze taxation by using Brad Pitt as a model.

On a side note, it's going to be 67 on Wednesday!! *is very happy to be back in md*

Heh, actually, my professor didn't write that question -- my textbook did. But I'm sure he was amused by it as well. :D

*checks weather* Ooh, you're right! It's supposed to 71 here in D.C. Time to pull out my skirts, it seems.

Wow, I have forgotten what it is like to have math homework with real words on it. (For comparison, this.) Hurrah for morbidity.

*runs from scary .pdf file* I suppose this is why I am not going to be a math major!

Your textbook > my textbook. I am properly jealous. :p

Well, it is only witty on occasion, so don't get too jealous there!

this reminds me of that funny xkcd comic where they discuss maths problems with allosauruses in them.

...ah, homework. almost makes me want to go back to those days. I'm in the midst of finals week now (again!) and it SUCKS.

You'll get through it -- at least you do not have to read about the mechanism of the gold standard? *eyes econ text*

This is why I'm not in econ.

Granted, I am totally in love with q-mech all over again. Schrödinger's Cat? Quantum suicide? I'm there!

I've always wondered what it'd be like to be a textbook author. You must find ways to entertain yourself. I remember in one of the U.S. history books I had, there was a line that said "Ford: not a Lincoln." I don't understand why, but I found it incredibly hilarious, and my class realized it when I burst out into laughter for about five minutes. Oh, good (?) times.

Anyway, I was wondering if you had a crazy amount of Georgetown photos on your facebook. I know, I know, incredibly random question. I'm in the process of checking out colleges for next year's applications and I'm one of the unfortunate people who can't visit schools until I'm accepted. Despite having access to the vast Internets, I cannot seem to find photos that aren't of

EDIT: Bad link! If it wasn't for one misplaced quotation mark, I would have linked to this.

I do have quite a few albums of Georgetown-related things uploaded, and I would be more than happy to friend you so that you might be able to browse through them! (Ignore the silly pictures, haha.) You can find me here. :)
