Was anyone close enough to the monster during the blackout to see if anything was happening around it?

When the other option of running away won't get you anywhere worthwhile, either, I fail to see why collecting information wouldn't be of interest.

Well, no, but I don't see why everyone's being so rude about your question. I think it would've been rather interesting to have had the chance to observe the creature during the blackout.

I mean, of course it wouldn't have been the safest course of action, considering that blackouts are, well, dark and utterly black, but sometimes adventure and information-gathering trumps safety.

I assume that those who were too afraid to do anything are trying to justify their own fears.

From the sounds of it, whatever disturbed the beast was not easily visible. Internal, perhaps?
