i think it's bizarre that they use the term "advanced beginning skills". perhaps i'm just not in the know, but it seems odd.

It is a bit bizarre. It's because so many people thing knitting is hard (even those that can do it) that things are labelled "advanced beginner" so that they think it's a beginning pattern rather than intermediate.
