I'm looking for a skin for my iPod. Anything good out there? I've seen the carbon fiber one, the iGuy, and the ToughSkin. Those are pretty much the ones in the running at the moment, but show me something good and my mind is quickly changed ( Read more... )

They have so many! How's that supposed to narrow my choices? Mebbe I'll have to have a little iPod wardrobe. Cuz I'm nerdy like that.

Man, I wish that really worked. That'd be the bomb-diggety.

I got Planetary 1 yesterday. What was the other comic you were talking about, available only online? I need me a fix.

photo copy your passport, take a copy with you and leave one here with someone. while it wont take the place of a passport if you lose it, the info could come in handy if either it or YOU get lost or stolen over seas :-)

I like this tip. So easy, but useful!

If you're taking ipods, laptops, etc., you may wish to register them with customs before you leave so there's no question that you didn't buy them in Japan. I never did it, but I think there's a place to do so in all international terminals. You only need to do it once as long as you have the papers with you.

Hrm. This isn't a bad idea. I'm assuming it's free? I'll have to look into this.

http://www.corporatetravelsafety.com/ sells a great little foldable-laminated-thingy that has pictures for everything you could imagine that you'd need while traveling. Seriously. Like, if you specifically want a GREEN pen. Or how you want your eggs or steak cooked. Or items you might be too embarassed to say out loud, like condoms. It's awesome.

That's a site designed to make you paranoid, eh? But lots of cool stuff. Rock on.

I got my slash-proof backpack from them for Peru. Well worth $100. I was really impressed with it.

Sweet. I've already got one or two $100 backpacks, though none are slashproof. That card looks awesome, as do the TSA locks.

since all you can talk about is japan, all i can talk about is china/tibet. (:

in addition to toilet paper (which i took from the hotels), wet wipes/hand sanitizer went fast. we used lots of sunscreen. small amounts of otc meds like motion sickness pills (i took 1 once we got on the transpacific plane, i was tired & feeling a little ill from the various flights), anti-diarrhea pills, decongestant, benadryl (also a sleeping aid), antacids, painkillers--i think we used everything at some point! i tried to only take stuff i didn't think i'd be able to find in a market, or wouldn't trust from a market. tampons!

i have one of those plug adapter things, we tried to plug in the camera/camcorder batteries every night. of course that didn't happen, thus we don't have much video from the trip. ):

Does China use the same sort of electricity we do? Apparently Japan does, so we just need plug adaptors, which is nice.

Yeah, OTC meds are a good idea. Were you able to find them in single serving packaging? I'm worried about bringing pills over without the original packaging, but I hate to bring a ton of bottles, too, you know? That's a lot of stuff, most of which I wouldn't have thought about. I'd probably get there and be whiny about being sick, since I don't usually take the meds. But I'm thinking I'll take them to make Japan more fun.

And I'm totally bringing my own tampons. I'm so picky about American brands; I can't imagine what Japanese ones are like.
