It's like winter all over again.

I laid around on the couch most of today, listening to Jonathan Strange (only 6.5 more hours to go!). I did eventually get up to get zippers for some theoretical skirts, and I got a couple of half-price patterns for a wide variety of skirts. Some A-line and some tiered, gypsy-ish. A step toward more colour and patterns in my life, I think ( Read more... )

Have you been out to Threadquarters at Olive & Ballas? It's yonder, but they have great yarn. Still the West County / Soccer Mom types, but good selection.

Also - for notions, I've found the place to be is Chris' Needlecraft, which is still further west into Chesterfield, on Olive almost at 141. They've got tons of stuff, but not so much yarn.

I've never been to either of those places. I'm like the reverse of many county folk, all scared to get too far away from the city. I have a fear that people too far from the city limits will treat me like crap (which sadly is a fear based on the truth--it's not so bad when it's cold out, and I'm all covered up) so I kind of huddle into my set routines. Notions are a tempting thought, though; they seem scarce or crappy at many places that I regularly haunt.

Well, even though I am not as visibly tattooed as you are, I can relate to the rude service/rude stares that I receive in West Co., even though I (sadly) grew up out there. I combat this by being so ridiculously nice and polite, engaging in conversation with everyone around me, so that the people who stare and/or behave rudely end up looking like huge, snobby assholes. I take great pleasure in it, actually.

That said, there is a distinct lack of notions in this area, isn't there? You know I love Knitorious, but I'm not going to pay $5 for point protectors. And they have no needle cases (which I needed desperately) or T-pins. Chris' has it all, and a decent selection of yarn to boot. The people are friendly to all walks of life, it seems. So I reccomend it.

I just ordered a Go-Knit Pouch from Yarniverse online, and I have to say that it's some of the best online service I've ever had. I originally found their website because I was looking for Muench Naturwolle, which virtually no one carries online. I was going to order it, ( ... )

I forgot, Chris' Needle Craft actually has a website, crappy though it may be. Location/hours are there.
