Me against pop.

I'm taking a great class called "Classical Music in an Age of Pop."  It's taught by Greg Sandow (www.gregsandow.com), a great critic and music thinker who has some pretty radical (read realistic) views about the state of classical music as we know it.

Well, you're not alone. I'm in a similar situation - having been brought by parents who are great lovers of classical music (and I mean nothing later than Rachmaninov) I didn't have the 'exposure' to pop music that others in my generation did.
So I've liked some of the bands and artists I've heard, but even now I don't care much for most of what is in 'the charts'. I like the more mellow stuff like Norah Jones, K T Tunstall, Joss Stone and Eva Cassidy, and a few bands like Cold Play and the like, but really I'm a classical music kinda guy.

So don't feel alone! :o)

Oh, my favorite is when I try to draw parallels between the pop music snob's extensive knowledge of pop music and mine of classical genres ( ... )
