Fic: Dreamwalk Blue: The Solitude Sessions (5/5)

Ending this thing after so long has been a bit like landing a jetliner without any landing gear: It’s not pretty and everybody’s fairly scraped up and traumatized, but we’re safely back on the ground. That said, this still isn’t quite the ending that I wanted to write - but it’s the one that I hope works the best (or sucks the least, depending on ( Read more... )

a long overdue thanks anonymous February 16 2011, 05:47:38 UTC
i used to read HP fanfic back in the day, when i was in college and fanfiction.net was the water cooler. a decade later i have no idea what the HP fandom looks like and my metabolism can't handle the two bagel a day diet anymore. i stumbled upon your LJ in a fit of boredom and random googling - and i'm so glad i did! as much as i loved the DT and POU and others, DB was always my favorite: so wonderfully moody and stylish, beautiful and cutting, like gatsby for the HP set. congrats on finishing it and a long overdue "thanks for sharing your prodigious talent" from yours truly, a humble anonymous reader.

"You could always come with us, you know, old boy..."

And suddenly, I realise what the solution to all their problems is. Or maybe I've just been in fandom too long. :)

I adore those early scenes with the three of them. I'm glad they found a way to get along.

I really liked what you did with Metis in the end. I like that she became her own person, and a pretty cynical one at that.

I was fascinated by the hints you dropped about what really happened in Fier with Grindelwald and all of them. Thank you for filling that out a little!

And then, in the end, it comes down to Albus and Tom, of course. Your Tom is wonderful - entrancing, terrifyingly dangerous, but not the caricature he becomes as Voldemort.

After all these years, I still love your writing style. I'm so grateful to you for writing this story in the first place, and for sticking with it once your life took you in other directions. You're a great storyteller, and you gave a lot to fandom and to me with this story. Thank you so much! ♥

Oh, I'm so glad you were able to read this! Thank you!

Ha! So this is originally the way I wanted to write it, but those early drafts just never quite worked. It's a big part of what I mean when I say that this still isn't quite the story I wanted to tell. It's interesting, though, that you still picked up on some of that dynamic so maybe it could work. (An AU of my own AU? ;)

Thank you for sticking with this story for so long. Never in a million years did I think it would take me ten years to write -- or that it would take on quite such a life of its own. It really allowed me to learn and grow -- and to meet some really amazing people! :)
