"Your planet has an interesting, if somewhat limited, gene pool."

For years I've been patiently explaining to my brother that I'm probably never going to like Star Trek (despite his best efforts to get me to watch Deep Space Nine) because I'm just not really attracted, for whatever reason, to shows all about geeky characters exploring the galaxy ( Read more... )

Was this Stargate: Atlantis or Stargate: SG-1? Oh, the confusingness.

SG-1. Atlantis is a spin-off, right? I think I need to get my head around the decade or so of backstory for the original, before I can even contemplate a spin-off. :)

I was totally goofily amused by how much I wound up liking the show, though.

I've only ever seen Atlantis. I think technically it is a spin-off, but with totally unrelated characters and plot. :P Not sure, though.

Did you like Atlantis? I see ads for it all over the place and the production values, etc., look pretty slick.

This is a dangerous game you're playing.

Sure. It starts with Stargate "ooh. how campy."

Then you're watching Battlestar Galactica -- then you decide to check out the original 70's series...and it's short hop to "Now this particular red shirt appeared as a Klingon in `the trouble with tribbles`"

And then you are lost.

Then you're watching Battlestar Galactica...

I'm already considering downloading the new Battlestar Galactica to iZac the iPod. The chances of me watching the original, though? Slim to none. I've already seen Space Mutiny, after all.

"Now this particular red shirt appeared as a Klingon in 'the trouble with tribbles'"

I think I would make a very poor Trekkie, actually. I see the phrase "red shirt" and immediately start thinking about recruiting classes and NCAA football. :)

Most people don't know this,

but it's a scientific fact that Star Trek and College football are exact, polar opposites. Like baking soda and vinegar.

If you mix them together they get all fizzy. Or something.
