This collection of images gives us an idea of the 'relatively new concept of urinals' of Paris in the 19th century. Invented in 1834, these old-fashioned toilets were designed to combat unpleasant smells that pervaded on the streets in those days, a sort of sanitation control as it were. This was a significant improvement in general living conditions to the city.
Judging from the photos, some marvellous urinals were richly decorated with strangely accents, whereas the other designs were purely functional. Many were fitted with a place for advertising.
