Looks like then Iran was more liberal than nowadays. Especially looking at the portrait of a girl with open legs.

Uh, girl with the open legs? You mean the one roasting meats sitting cross legged with a long skirt, the bride with the many layers of wedding gown disguising everything besides her knee? Honestly don't know what you're talking about, but yeah, it's safe to assume that when fundamental religion gains civil authority, life tends to suck. Doubly so if you are unlucky enough to be female.
