1870s. Toothless Granny

A tintype image of a toothless granny with handtinted rosy cheeks.  I guess she ate a soft diet.  Reminds me of an ancient Arabic curse:  May all your teeth fall out except one...and may it ache.

Wow! I wonder how old she actually was. People often aged much more rapidly back then, due to hard lives/less help for the little things like bad teeth. :-/

my DH had most of his top teeth pulled due to dekal from years of not caring for them..and he forget his dentures all the time when we go out..;\ and he can chew pretty well w/o them..things not so soft..just saying..

I think she is beautiful. Every line, every grey hair is a badge of courage for all the hard work and suffering she has endured. Some of those lovely lines came from laughter, blending in with the others. She is beautiful because of her lines and wrinkles, for she is the embodiment of the Crone, the wise woman who shared her wisdom with her children and then with their children.
