Starlet/chorus girl Doris McMahon in costume as the maid (yeah, right) for the pre-Code 1934 movie Hips, Hips, Hooray starring Ruth Etting (Ten Cents A Dance). RKO Radio studio publicity photo.
Wow she certainly is a saucy maid! You wouldn't be able to get much cleaning done in that lol I'm a bit surprised to see an outfit like that back in the day, to be honest. That seems like something that would raise eyebrows even now.
I might have a skewed view of the 30s and its movies because I really haven't seen very many but that seems especially risque. Was it, for the times? (I ask the general internet lol)
Man I'm glad lj highlighted this community... I really love old photos and I've enjoyed seeing them pop up on my friends list. It's such a wide range and I can see things that surprise me a bit like this.
Sorry for my rambling comment... I'm falling asleep but couldn't help commenting first :)
Starlite: I'm glad you like the photos. Thank you for telling me. Yes, movie costumes in the early years could be pretty racy. Here's Greta Garbo in Mata Hari, 1931. Dewey

Wow! That's so crazy! Was it an accepted practice sort of like how today it doesn't raise too many eyebrows if an actor/actress goes partially or fully nude in a film that requires it, or did some of those actresses get push back from those types of outfits? Also, did men ever wear anything racy too?
If my questions are annoying feel free to ignore them or tell me to just look it up. I know I can do some of this research on my own if I were to google different things but on specific questions like that sometimes I prefer to just directly ask people who are already more educated on the matter than I am.
