My first thought was "It must have been wonderful to come home from work smelling like lemons!", but then I thought that it was probably a very difficult, grueling job, and your great-grandmother was probably heartily sick of the smell of lemons after the first week.

I can imagine the smell of lemons would get to be obnoxious. Dad worked in the plant for a few summers when he was a kid and he said the plant smelled amazing. Also, my great grandparents lived on a working citrus ranch, so my great grandmother was surrounded by citrus day and night!

Wonderful pictures. I too thought how hard it would be standing there all day, long before padded floor surfaces too I'm sure. I suppose you would get used to the smell, but it seems like it would have been a nice smell.

I know. I can't imagine how much these women's backs and feet hurt. Even their stools they can sit on look really uncomfortable.
