Today I scanned the photographs of people I could not identify, and now Grandma could not identify. Some of them I have first names and years, and most of them I don't even have that. But they're really cool photographs ( Read more... )

I've enjoyed the pictures. Thank you for posting them.

I noticed the names Virgina, Ginia, & Vir.
Ginia could be a nickname for Virgina, and Vir might be an abbreviation to make it fit on the picture.

"Jone" may be "Ione" from the Greek myths. I think it's also a flower.

As I was going through the tumblr with my parents, we noticed that those three could be the same girl. Also, Mom thought it was Ione too.

I'm bad at judging temporal provenance based on fashions, etc., but could Peggy be the same person as Margaret (it's diminutive for Margaret). Of course Margaret is also a very common name...

Sorry if this is totally unhelpful.

No, it's fine! I have no way to verify so I don't know.

Thank you for sharing these wonderful pictures. I have a bunch from the turn of the century of my family. There is one aunt that no one knows her name.. just that she was called the "fat aunt". It's even written on the back of the photos. Poor lady :)

Oh no that's horrible! I would hate to be relegated to the "fat aunt" in family photos.

Hee, your unknown pics make me want to dig into some census records and possibly figure out who those folks were. [It sounds you are one step away from being a genealogy bug, if you aren't one already! :-) ]

Unfortunately, my old unknown pics either don't have names on them, or just has the name of the person it was being given to, which isn't altogether helpful. :-/

Genealogy is next, once I finish scanning these photos. So in a few months. Then I can go back and identify the pictures.
