My mom got that edition of the Joy of Cooking when she got married. I ate that Beef Stroganoff over egg noodles many, many times during my childhood! Thank you for the memories.

Tartrate- Cream of Tarter, maybe? Hmm.

I googled it and I think that is right. google tells me Potassium tartrate is otherwise known as cream of tartar. Interesting.

Thanks for the Stroganoff recipe! My Mom passed unexpectedly in 2007 and I've never found a modern recipe close to what she made (it was one she never wrote down). This sounds closer than others I've seen.

More or less the same recipe that my family and I use. We tend to use more onion and, occasionally, swap out plain yogurt for the sour cream.
