what's in the peaches around the rice ring??

It's a mystery to me! There's no instructions or description of that at all. I guess the peach embellishment is up to you. :-)

Up at the top right peach, they look pretty rounded, so I'm guessing pomegranate seeds?

I just don't know... I've always considered Crisco to be a non-sticking agent or a frying medium. The thought of actually eating half a cup of Crisco in a recipe doesn't quite sound right to me.

store bought cakes with fake butter cream, little debbie's, etc... you've been eating great gobs of crisco all your life.

Why is Crisco different from butter in that regard? In fact, butter flavored shortening works very well in cookie and cake recipes.

Was this cookbook by chance published by Crisco? Each recipe uses it by name, instead of calling for "vegetable shortening."
