We've seen World War II get all the attention (the latest was the important 75th anniversary of D-Day) but the oft-ignored Korean War should be acknowledged, too. Today is the 69th anniversary of the start of the war: June 25, 1950.

Lest you think I ignored Korean War Veteran's on the calendar, in July's weekend events:

26-28 Friday-Sunday Weekend Events: Makeup AND Superheroes AND as the 27th is Korean War Veteran's Day, ads related to that time, event, and Korea

That was the 'official day' on the calendar, I dunno why. But that is the day I went with.

I've never seen this! The book is a favourite, possibly my all-time favourite, but I hear the film's not very like it.

That's true, Hollywood changed it quite a bit. They never can resist the urge. ;)

This looks like an awesome movie!

Yes, the Korean War doesn't get much mention at all!

The movie's pretty good. It's fascinating to me that even during the war, Korean War films could be grim and gritty. During World War II they had to go easy on that and didn't really become nuanced until after the war, but Korea seemed to inspire less rah-rah and more realism even while it was raging.

Strange that it doesn't get much mention, as it was the first 'hot' war to be fought under the shadow of the bomb, the first use of United Nations troops, etc. I guess its proximity to World War II didn't help.
