I'd actually never seen these hilarious microwave style Jiffy Pop bowls before!  The ad is older than I am [just by a year, lol] but I grew up only eating the stove-top version of Jiffy Pop.

We did both stovetop Jiffy Pop and my mom did get a popcorn popper before the days of microwaves. It was really fun to watch the corn pop!

Hey, yesterday was National Popcorn Day! ;)

I only use the boring microwave bagged stuff now, but when I was a kid, watching Mom make Jiffy Pop was so, so fun.

Re: National Popcorn Day--I'd wager that's why this was set as the weekend event :D

Me too for boring microwave popcorn, too, and I figured as much. ;)

I should look for some next time I grocery shop - I always wanted to try it as a kid :-)

Fellow child of the '80s here (though the earlier part) and I don't recall the existence of any microwave version either, but I do have many memories of slumber parties gone awry when my friends and I somehow managed to set the stovetop version on fire as we were trying to make it!

While familiar with the product and having used it a few times, our family had used several popcorn cookers, the last one was an air pop with a butter melter tray on the top. During winter months when we had a fire in our fireplace we popped corn the old fashioned way over the open flame in a long handled tin popcorn popper.
