Love that bathroom! Dashiell Hammett wrote in Mildred Pierce that the American bathroom was a fantastic feat of modern engineering: clean lines, up-to-date features (shower, tub, toilet), and a celebration of American 'know-how' while the rest of the working-class house was shabby and without much flair. :)

It reminds me of the old house we lived in years ago until dad did some renos - except it was white and green.

James M. Cain wrote the book. The screenplay is credited to Ranald MacDougall.
