How old IS the food truck phenomenon?

We've had food trucks here for no more than this century, but our "pie carts" (kitchens on wheels based on buses and caravans) go back at least to the 30s. The White Lady is still going strong (you can see it in the third pic and the fifth shows old ads plastered to the side) - it served great food for us uni students.

There are companies here that rent out beautiful old ones for weddings (they have white and metallic ones!) or for holidays, all fitted out in retro style; I've seen them at events. I'd hire one! Preferably a red and white one.
