Old time radio ads are guilty of this...I can’t remember the food but it promised to be a great source of food energy although today we would think twice about that claim :)

Any ad that claims or even just implies that candy is wholesome and good for you gets an automatic YES from me.

I am so confused...isn't dextrose supposed to be good (ie sucrose bad). Or is dextrose the "corn syrup" one? I thought fruit had fructose? Is that good or bad?

The corn industry co-opted dextrose as the 'brand name' for crystalized corn sugar and marketed it as a wonderful, healthful sugar - it is the scientific name for a certain kind of natural sugar found in a bunch of different types of plants, not just corn. It is different from fructose but probably not better or worse. Of course the propaganda usually says that because dextrose is naturally in plants that are good for you, extracting it from the plant and putting it in cakes or candies is, clearly, also good for you.

No, I don't think that's gonna fly.

Not that I'll ever stop eating candy bars, mind.

Yes, because it's promoting a candy bar as good as something wholesome & natural.
