ah, i'm SUPPOSE to get an email when i'm mentioned on here, but alas, i did not! no, i have never grown, nor thought of growing purple roses! i had a 'golden showers' yellow rose bush---cuz of it's name ;-) up front but a dingbat neighbor pruned it back one fall!!!! they said it should be cut back, i said i never do that, they came and did it when i was inside and it died! grrrrrrrrrr.....now somehow i have a red rose bush growing in that area.....and i 'borrowed' a rose bush---blush color---from a vacant house down the street and in my back yard i have two HUGE wild rose bushes that are just HEAVEN when they bloom! :)
