I eat potted meat and liver spread. Spam spread isn't very much of a stretch for me.

This contest has made me realize I eat some apparently very terrible things.

Me too. I love pate and terrines. I am almost embarrassed that I enjoy Spam. Maybe a tad salty, but I love the flavor especially when fried for a sandwich with mustard. I admit I like some TV Dinners, too.

I used to like TV dinners when they were in aluminum trays and you had to bake them in the oven. I actually liked the hint of aluminum taste, especially in mashed potatoes, but the idea scares me now. So does cooking in plastic, which is why I avoid frozen dinners now.

I love Spam too. Bake it in the oven with a bit of cheese and I have a delicious sandwich. So bad for me, but so very good too :)

Yes! Guck! They actually once made spreadable Spam?

Yes.

But I would totally eat that! Meat spreads remind me of vacations when I was a kid, because my budget-minded mother packed picnic foods for most of our meals on the road and she always included potted or deviled meats. Gimme some soft Sunbeam bread to spread 'em on and I'm once again an 8 year old eating lunch at a rest stop picnic table!

What a great memory! That was how it was with our family, too. Even today I would much rather pack food for the road, but that has more to do with food quality and being able to control ingredients. Needless to say, canned meats are not part of that equation! :D

Vacations were also the few times we ate things like Easy Cheez because it was easy to pack. I think my mother was thinking more of convenience and packability than quality. It was fun, though! We were allowed to bring candy to snack on in the car, but no chocolate since it would melt and make a mess. Also this was back in the '70s when there weren't as many kid-friendly choices along the road to stop to eat.

Yes. These probably look worse than they taste. If Spam is your thing, of course. A few minutes under the broiler would make these tasty, I would think...
