For those who might not know... "ethyl" is tetraethyl lead, an anti-knock additive. It sounds like "ethanol", but we wouldn't be cursed by that in our fuel until a few decades later. :)

Some theorize that all that lead in the air from car exhaust was a partial cause of the rather violent times most big cities had in the 70s and 80s. It's an interesting read.
