Texaco service stations, 1941  (artwork by Peter Helck)

The copy alone sells me: "The hour is late...the driving, tough...the road, lonely. Then, through the cold, wet darkness shines a star... the Texaco Star.  Beneath its friendly light, a man waits to serve you...a Texaco dealer, alert, capable, competent."

Yes. The copy is beautifully written! And I would not want to be driving on that road, in the rain, with no gas station available...

Hopefully, the driver has good tires...

Registered rest room? I'd settle for clean.

I seem to remember that, even up into the late 70s when I was a child, Texaco had some kind of a reputation for unusually clean restrooms, and my grandmother talking about that and recommending stopping there when we were on a family roadtrip, as I had a severe restroom phobia as a child and would freak out dangerously if forced into a particularly filthy one. We did and I do remember the sense of relief I felt at what was definitely an unusually nice clean restroom for a gas station, but I believe they sadly quit bothering with that at some point in the 80s.

Yes, the Texaco restrooms were exemplary. They made a specific point of it. And, I can see why someone would select Texaco stop merely for that reason alone.

Oh, and "yes" if voting is still open, it was interesting having that memory tripped with some confirmation.

So I guess this is the beginning of the 24/7 convenience store?
