You know, I honestly thought that advertisers in the 1950s and '60s genuinely had no sense of irony.
Then I saw this.
Addendum: This was created as an in-house joke by one of the biggest producers of TV commercials. Mr. Cliché is played by Roger Price, creator of Droodles and Mad Libs; Mrs. Cliché is Betty Garrett, Laverne and Shirley's landlady.
