I guess all the origin accidents that resulted in dead people don't get comics made about them :)

Or there's some kind of meta-explanation involving the manipulation of fate or chance by some outside agency or plot device, explaining just why so many superheroes turn up in that universe.

Or there are lots of potential universes for each possible outcome of an origin story, and we just get comics about the most entertaining ones, which are the ones where a greater number of accidents resulted in superpowers.
