I totally know what you mean about getting better grades in something that isn't your major. Been there. Lots of times. But think about it this way: are the classes that you're not taking for your major as in-depth and complex and thorough as the ones that are? A while ago, I got hung up on that, then made myself a quick graph on my white board, class number on the bottom and grade going up, and i marked all my non-major classes in one color, and all the classes for my major in another color. There was a very pretty split around the 200 level. I figure course number is as good an indicator as I'm going to get for how hard the class is. That comforted me a bunch.
And as for the Narnia books, if you like it when everything is as completely explained as possible as you're reading, read them in the order they take place. If you can deal with just taking some things as given, read them in the order they were published.
