His kind was not supposed to feel.
They were supposed to listen. Obey.
And they were supposed to do it unquestioningly.
But he was feeling, and it was something that seemed to bring emotions from all ends of the spectrum.
Wrath. When the order was given that Dean would be threatened with Hell, and again when the Winchester was forced with a decision between his brother and a lover.
Sloth. He hadn’t wanted to take action against the Winchester brothers. He was content to watch them as the tried to save people, both with Samhaein, and with Anna. He did not want to be the cause for more of their troubles.
Pride. He was proud of the fact that he had been to the one to pull Dean from Hell. He was proud of the fact that Dean trusted him, more so than Uriel at least. And he was proud of the fact that Dean allowed him to stay by his side.
Envy. He had watched as Anna kissed Dean, and he had felt it when the other Angel touched his mark on the man. He had wanted, with all of his being, to get to the two of them and rip them away from each other. The mere thought of them together made something inside him clench with cold and sickness.
Gluttony. He wanted more. He was unsatisfied with what he had been gifted with. His time with Dean was limited, and he wanted more, even if the man didn’t want to see him. He would take what he could, but he would never be satisfied.
Greed. The need for contact seemed almost insatiable. He needed to be touched, seen, heard and… needed. By both Dean and Samuel. In his heart of hearts Castiel knew that the brothers came as a package deal, and if he needed to be close to both of them to get what he wanted, he would do it. And Samuel was not the demonic evil that some of his brothers had branded him.
Lust. He wanted Dean Winchester. He had come to terms with this. He wanted hands on his skin, lips on his own, and eyes looking at him with unparalleled love and devotion. If Dean was willing to lie with an angel, why could it not be him?
As Castiel pondered on his own thoughts he came to the realization that he had gone through all seven of the deadly sins. This in and of itself was enough to be hurled from Heaven. But for some reason he couldn’t bring himself to care. Maybe Anna had had the right idea. These emotions were not a bad thing. They were a blessing. A disguised one of course, but it was better then not being able to feel at all.
That’s when it hit him. He had already fallen.
And he was grateful. He was free.
