What do you do to get rid of stress?

Read entertaining (as opposed to depressing or frightening) novels, preferably set in a time and/or place that is very different to mine. I've always been able to lose myself in fictional worlds; as a child I annoyed my parents by just not hearing them when they tried to get my attention. Sadly I can no longer ( Read more... )

I sometimes find a good - and challenging - nonfiction book in an area that reallu interests works better than fiction for really distracting me.

Or rereading old favourites.

I prefer peace and quiet for reading but will read anywhere rather than not

(Hi!) It's telly rather than books, but I have, of late, immersed myself in popcorny, lengthy Chinese historicals, even if they can be very wobbly writing-wise. But at least there's a lot of history (not just relationships/romances like in Western ones, but they include the politics, court intrigue and battles, yet not as gratuitously as HBO would do it with the sex and violence, either). Some of them are so huge, yet so cheaply made that I get a similar kick out of them as I do of OldWho and B7 in a way, of good entertainment despite the odds: "Oh, this armour is made of cardboard and it's shot on video, but look how this A-list actor takes it completely seriously and delivers a genuinely gripping performance!" IDK, I just enjoy them to empty my brain, and it works. Do they get any airtime over there, considering it's nearer to your neck of the woods?

P.S. I'd love to do this meme myself; can you tell me where the full list of questions is? I rarely come here these days, but it looks like fun. (And I've missed you!)

We just finished a Korean series this week, and I have another on the go, a court drama about a look-alike entertainer standing in for a king and doing a much better job. I know there are plenty more like it - they get recced to me by Netflix - but I should check out the Chinese ones friends have enjoyed. I'm pretty sure Netflix will have them too. I did start to watch The Untamed with sallymn loves, but went to sleep during the first ep and got confused; I must have another go. Another one I fancy is The Story of Yanxi Palace as azdak says it has good parts for women unlike others she's watched. They'll be for when Greg's not here as he doesn't like them as much as I do ( ... )

Ahahahaww, my hair's dwindled down to only a third of what it used to be, these days--I have a decent regimen of meds these days for my endometriosis and EDS, but it does give me semi-menopause, so The Mane has thinned considerably. But I don't miss the pain. If it's a small enough sword (claymores are taller than I am) I'll be happy to pose for that, though :D Thank your subconscious for recommending me for such a shot; I am much flattered ( ... )

There was one time when I was so immersed in a book (the "Dribblesome Teapots andthat other Incredible stories " to be exact (well I was 7)) that I failed to notice that the family had headed out for a picnic. They got partway down the road before they noticed I was missing!

Reading is a good way of relieving stress.

Ha! That happened to me a lot. In primary school I'd hold a book out of sight on my lap and eventually look up to find that the subject had changed to something else altogether. I missed the bus for an off-site class once and was too ashamed to go home and admit it so had to wander around the school grounds till it was time.
