All black cats look alike

This story came up on a US site, and I was even more amused when I realised just who had tweeted it - Clarke Gayford, the partner of our new prime minister, Jacinda Arden (about whom I am very excited).

The story of the mistaken cat

It's worth looking at a few others of his tweets. My favourites:

With a name like Clarke Gayford, he sounds as though he ought to be a gambler on a Mississippi riverboat. :) He seems to have a great sense of humour, which is good not only for himself but for his partner, especially now that she's in such a stressful job.

I figured there couldn't be two people in the country called that, and sure enough...

They both have great senses of humour. Plus she gives a damn; I have high hopes for this government.

AT least you know the derivation of Kiwi - no one really knows the origin of 'Yankee'.

Most of us just think of 'kiwi' as a rather cute bird or a nation of people living in a rather nice country who seem to magically avoid nasty politics.

Yes, true. To Americans though, yankees are either northerners, or more specifically, New Englanders. I think the only ones who actually call themselves that are the New Englanders.

Thank you! Is there another nation though which calls itself (a self-inflicted injury) after an animal, let alone a dull and useless bird? Keas at least are cheeky, cute, intelligent, and colourful. I could possibly live with being called a kea.

I tried to post a reply on DW, but it claimed I wasn't on your access list...

Oh, I thought you were! I'll have to look at that.

Fixed! Complex system, DW has.

I liked this post very much! Especially when you have representatives with such sense of humour - and cat /animal lovers. Welllllllll...I envy you!

I can't believe our luck! Of course the right-wingers are upset but I have huge hopes for this government. We've had 9 years of a government looking after rich corporates, selling off the country to overseas buyers (most from China) and not giving a damn about the poor or the environment. Anything the Labour coalition does couldn't help but be better.

The previous prime minister is a rich farmer (farmers are massive supporters of National and would vote for a pig if it stood for National), and though there's a family cat, I don't think he was a cat-lover. I should think well-trained dogs would be more his thing.

Jacinda Arden is warm, likeable, and full of positivity and hope.

I say - I am green with envy. Our politicians are all corrupted crap, no matter the party. Sad, dangerous and dispiriting...

Pretty much what National was. Pigs lining their troughs and only caring about businesses. Capitalism at its worst (which is saying something). The new people actually have ethics.

I like the kea idea (though kiwis are adorable).

The shape might be, but they're timid, dull things. If we really have to name ourselves after a creature, keas are personality plus (we don't have any native mammals).
