Hobbitness!

Dec 11, 2013 18:53

We're off to see The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug tonight, or more accurately, tomorrow morning at 12.01am (the first public showings possible). From what I've heard, it's going to be even more fun than part 1. Because it's long, we've booked the leather adjustable luxury seats. You can also order food and drink brought to your own little side- ( Read more... )

Have fun! I'm seeing it on Friday, which I think is the day it opens in the UK.

I've now seen it and I enjoyed it. :) Visually it was stunning, and if it sometimes strayed a long way from the book, well I don't feel that The Hobbit is Holy Writ in the way that I do LotR so it didn't really bother me. It was sometimes a bit hard for me to suspend disbelief during some of the fight sequences, though, when one or two elves or dwarves would take out a whole host of orcs.

I didn't mind the deviations; you need a lot more story to fill up 7-8 hours of screen time. I think the elves have speed, reaction time, and intelligence on their side so I could believe that, but yeah, there were (fun!) scenes on the river that were hard to believe but very easy to take. :-)

I agree about The Hobbit, being written before Tolkien fully realised his world, but this adaptation actually ties it in very well.

I am just mentally visualising you squeeing at "Vila vs. Tarrant the Dragon: the movie." :3

Ha, YES! Bilbo really is incredibly Vila-like with lots of dear-in-the-headlight expressions. [hugs] When he was talking to Smaug, I was reminded of the story I wrote where he met a dragon, but mine was much friendlier.

That sounds like terrific movie-going experience! Enjoy!

I'm not sure when I'm going to get the chance to go and see it, but I'm hoping I can manage it in the next few weeks.

I hope you do too! Do you have to go to Albuquerque?

Yep. It might come to the small theater here at some point, but they don't have 3D, and I figure I might as well go for the whole experience. :)

Post a review when you get the chance, please. With everything else going on it might be the new year before I can spare the time to go.

Posted!

BTW I just got an email from a knitting place I sometimes buy yarn from and they're selling kits to make Bogur's scarf and gloves from the Mithril brand wool that was used in the film's costumes.

And I ordered a book (Amigurume: Make Cute Crochet People) that should arrive soon. I might then be able to make B7 people and even a Bilbo. :-)

You must see the first one, then the second. But it's a year till the third, so the longer you wait the less time you'll have between instalments.
