I have a soft spot for heavy engineering (which my father used to indulge with visits to dams and bridges). The motorway viaduct over Newmarket is being replaced while still in use, and on Sunday they had an open day. You may possibly get on with daemon_will, who is my favourite heavy engineer. He doesn't post much at the moment because he is out in Hong Kong building bridges.

How many heavy engineers do you know? :-) Very cool. I did Engineering Intermediate at uni and often regret I continued in physics rather than engineering. I could have worked on that viaduct. I could've been a contender.

That's a great idea - having an open day to get people feeling involved with the bridge, and letting people sign it. An unusual day out, but looks like a good one.

I've been interested in it for months, watching the Big Blue Thing move along as the new lanes grow. I really enjoyed the stop-motion slide show of the progress they showed.
