New Who

Apr 13, 2010 18:16

Like many others I am delighted that we seem to have the old-style Doctor Who back, full of adventure and wonder and fun. Not that I've seen that much classic Who, but I remember watching Four and some of Five and thrilling to the title music.

May I take 1, 5, &6 please?

I really want an Eleven icon that says 'Eleventy!'

I've been enjoying the new series too. The bit about the Doc not interfering was also a reference - to his earlier self. The First Doctor always went round saying they were never to interfere with events, right before he did. In fact there's a lot in this version that harks back to his first two selves. Very eccentric and whirlwind and temperamental.

Amy recorded the message right after she'd seen the tape, but before she hit forget, and I think she did it because she'd already figured out he wouldn't be able to leave well enough alone and would end up having to make the awful choice he very nearly made.

I'm going with the theory that Liz 10's accent changed over time, living much closer to everyone than she would have previously. I also totally need a Liz 10 icon. She did indeed rule ;-D

Of course!

That makes sense about Amy. And I suppose I miss a lot of classic Who references.

I'm happy to put "Eleventy!" on the icon or screencap of your choice. :-) Would you like a Liz 10 icon? I could have a go at one for you. :-) I'd love to find a cap of her with both pistols.

[Edit] I can't find any photos of Sophie Okonedo in that role. Since you live in the UK, you might be able to. I don't bother going near the BBC site as they lock me out of most stuff.

The BBC episode gallery has two of her pointing one gun... Hang on, I've found a new screencap gallery (or one I didn't know before). How's this?

I probably can't see the BBC gallery, but that's a good one. Thanks!

Great fun, wasn't it. :)

I'm not sure that there was any meaning in the Doctor saying he never interfered beyond it being a good joke given his past form. Amy had him figured out pretty quickly, though. "So you never interfere except when you see a child crying?"

Lots of people have mentioned Staw Wars references, but I must admit they had passed me by. Though I've seen the gilms, I dopn't remember a rubbish chute or being inside a creature with pointy teeth.

The most obvious one was a royal woman saying "You're our only hope."

Now that one has been pointed out it's obvious, but I confess that I didn't notice it at the time.

In the first film, Han, Luke, Leia, and Chewbacca go down a chute to a place full of rubbish, liquid, serpentine creatures, and walls that close in. In a later film, Han and Leia hide in what they think is a huge cave in an asteroid, but it's a stomach, and when they escape in the Millennium Falcon, it's through closing pointy teeth. :-)

Now I think of it, being vomited out should have put the Doctor and Amy in space.

They are wonderful :) I'm looking forward to seeing Eleven... I've missed the magic.

Really? From you that's praise indeed, but they're very plain.

I do think the magic is back, and I'm very much looking forward to the next ep which hasn't happened for a long time. :-)

Sometimes the trick is knowing when plain is best... :)

The magic is most definitely back. I watched DW from when I was 7 years old and Eleven's really recaptured that feeling. :)

There was a moment when he said something like "I don't get into trouble...badly". (LOL!) Which is all anybody needs to know about the Doctor (past and present).

I would be saying DALEKS AGAIN, URGH, too -- except that he called Churchill "dear" on the phone. XD Plus it's a historical, so, yay. :D

P.S. Great icons! :) You have a nice, clean style.

I may have to watch these episodes again, that's how much I like them! And really, retro WW2 Daleks might be OK, and Churchill and Space Spitfires definitely are. :-D

Thank you! I have now also done a pistol-packing Liz in request:

I have to admit, the Daleks with a bit of camo and a wee Union Jack label was kind of endearingly quaint. :)

LOL! Okay, I'm going to have to snag Liz 10 (with credit).
