This is my livelongnmarry charity story, written for crycraven, who requested Vila and Avon on a heist or mission together in season 1 or 2. Many thanks to my faithful and excellent beta-reader astrogirl2.
Aw. Just sweet enough, without going over the top. Very nice. Though I can't quite hear Vila say 'abseiling'. But I particularly like the bit with the cat statue, and jamming the escape door so the baddies couldn't get away. Oh, and them backing Blake into sticking around to do some follow-through. I would have like to see more of them working together to do that in canon. Perfect that Vila had the idea, and Avon so smoothly made use of it as if it were his own. :)
But Avon listened, and I think he would do exactly as you have him do. So it's good and satisfying characterization, IMO.
And you didn't have to change the abseiling on my account, sorry. I was just trying to give honest, attentive feedback, because I so enjoy it when I get it. Doesn't mean I expect you to change anything, especially something you've already posted.
Ah, what a lovely little tail. I like how neatly they tied that up, and you've painted a lovely little picture of Lindor. Some part of me wishes they'd stayed. I'm also pretending, intentionally or not, that the two behind the coffee bar and me and you, and we have fabulous parties with the blonde next door, tanks and all. ;)
they did not seem to have the excitement and annoyance most people showed on discovering an unexpected Vila made me laugh out loud.
You do them so lovely. Such nice banter, and little asides and backstory. Vila's past, the opening referring back to Breakdown, etc. Just wonderful. :D
(Though I was still hoping they'd get married, ahahaha.)
It was a PGP; no Lindor. Some Like It Hot is a very funny old film about two musicians on the run from the Mafia who dress in drag and join a female band to escape. The lead singer's Marilyn Monroe, who's out to marry a millionaire, but a real one falls for one of the blokes in drag and asks him to marry him. The last scene has him saying, "I'm a man!" and the millionaire shrugging and smiling fondly and saying, "Nobody's perfect!" I love that film.
So I thought of having Avon and Vila and maybe Soolin on the run from the Federation PGP and joining a female band on tour, Soolin as singer, Vila on drums, and Avon on piano because he learned as a little Alpha. They'd all be rooming together with other girls when they were put on hotels and have to pretend to be best female friends, so they become close. It was going to end with a proposal too. ;-)
Americans don't call it that, and I didn't want to puzzle people, but I was really more concerned that Vila as a dome dweller, then space traveller, wouldn't know the term. So I changed it.
This story makes me happy! I love the way you write Vila and Avon together, how their subtle friendship comes through. I admire Vila's steadiness when he's working, and his unabashed pleasure in pleasurable things. I enjoy Avon's crisp manner and sarcasm, too.
I love that all adults are in the military, and that it's home-based so members can grab their gear quickly. And the young woman with the tank! :D
It's very like Vila to think of the aftermath of one of Blake's maneuvers, and to come to it through grievance that Blake wouldn't let them have R&R. Of course, Avon picks that up smoothly to persuade Blake to let them check out the situation.
The section with them breaking into the President's office and both being worried about the other was my favorite part.

I've always thought that just dropping Sarkoff off and going was very abrupt and probably achieved very little if the elections were rigged. I was going to get him and Tyce in there too, but there wasn't an opportunity.

But you were right; I'm not sure Vila would know the term. I wasn't that happy about it myself or I'd have let it stand (or dangle). :-)
