Chapter 17: Getting Ready
~One week later~
Noriko was standing in the bathroom putting on perfume. She hoped she was dressed okay. Mizumi called her earlier that day and told her to get dressed in something nice since they were going out some place, but to also make sure it was comfortable.
Sighing Noriko looked at herself in the mirror. It had been ages since she’d been out on a date and so she hoped she was dressed right. She was wearing a black dress that went to her knees and showed off her long dark legs and black heels that wrapped around her ankles. She didn’t put on any make up but did put on lip gloss.
She smiled sadly remember her first date with Jun.
~Flashback~
Jun opened the door and stared wide eyed at Noriko, she was dressed in a black mini skirt with a dark blue shirt, black heels and make up on.
“Konbon…Nori-chan.” He said smoothly looking at her, “You…You look different.”
Noriko looked down, “Thanks…Jun-chan…Mizumi and Yori said that…I looked pretty…”
Jun nodded and looked down as well, “Are you comfortable in all that?” he asked looking at her.
She sighed and shook her head, “Not really…Iie.” She smiled, “I wanted to impress you though.”
Jun looked stunned, “I…Impress…Impress me?” he asked, “Nande?”
Noriko blushed, “You know…Since…”
Jun shook his head, “Nori-chan, I want you to be…comfortable, I think you look beautiful without make up…you don’t need impress me…Hontou.”
Noriko smiled, “Thanks…would you mind terribly waiting so I can take it off.”
“I’d be insulted if you continued to wear it.” He said smiling to which Noriko smiled as well.
~End Flashback~
Noriko sighed, then shook her head and put on her diamond dangling earrings. She looked at herself once more and nodded. Junji was sitting on her bed with his shinkenger pajamas, with his backpack on his back.
“Are you done yet Okaa-san?” He called, with his eyes closed.
Noriko walked out of the bath room and kissed him on the forehead before walking over to her dresser and putting on a charm bracelet.
“Hai, I’m done now.” Noriko said, “Are you ready to spend the night with Koji and Rika?”
Junji smiled and nodded enthusiastically, which made Noriko smile brightly.
“Okay…Let’s go.” She said holding out her hand. Junji jumped off the bed and grabbed her hand. Noriko turned off the light and walked down the hallway grabbing her light jacket a long with Junji’s.
They walked out of the apartment and she picked him up and held him while Junji wrapped his legs around her waist and his arms around her neck.
“You smell good Okaa-san.” He said putting his head on her shoulder. Noriko smiled at his compliment.
“Domo Ji-chan.” she said lightly.
Aiba and Yori lived three blocks down from Noriko. It was convenient in a way that she wondered if Yori planned it all.
Noriko set Junji down when they got to the apartment and both wore twin smiles when Aiba opened the door.
“Jun-chan!” Aiba said happily picking up Junji making him laugh.
Noriko watched the pair sadly before Aiba set him back on the ground, “Come on up Nori-chan! Rika’s been here since I got off of work, Mizumi and Oh-chan wanted you to go to their apartment after you drop off little Jun-chan!” He said smiling, “but, I’m sure you can be a bit late.”
Noriko looked at Junji who was looking up at Aiba as if he were the best thing in the world.
‘I’m doing this to him…’ she thought sadly, ‘if I had just let Jun go earlier…Junji wouldn’t know the pain of not having a father figure.’
“I…I’m sure Mizumi would kill me if I were late Aiba-chan.” Noriko said softly turing her eyes back to him.
Junji looked at Noriko with determination.
“Okaa-san…ano…” Junji looked down, “Can you smile a lot tonight?”
Noriko looked at him in surprise, “Eh?”
“Dozo…Okaa-san, ‘cause when you look this pretty you need to smile.” He said nodding, “Dozo?”
Noriko smiled big and bright, “I will smile the whole night and when I do…I’ll think of you okay.”
Junji smiled, “I love you Okaa-san.”
Noriko bent down and she hugged him, “I love you more ji-chan.”
The moment was broken up by Aiba who was sniffling. Noriko looked up at him and he was rubbing his eyes.
“You’re not crying are you?” She asked standing up again.
Aiba shook his head, “Iie…” he said rubbing his eyes, “Come on Junji…You’re Okaa-san will be back tomorrow.”
Junji nodded and smiled at Noriko who put a smile on her face. Noriko shook her head and walked down the street to the train. When she got on it she saw Junji’s teacher. She looked at him for a brief moment before shaking her head.
Sho looked over and saw legs before looking up them and resting on Noriko’s face. His eyes widened and he shook his head.
‘She does not look like an okaa-san in that.’ He thought shaking his head once more. Once his stop got called they got off at the same place. ‘What’s going on here?’ he thought then walked over to her.
