Waiter Rants ...

I love this guy's blog, I really do, but sometimes reading the comments enrages me. For the record, I have never seen anyone spit in someone's food, serve it off the floor, purposely put hair in their food, or otherwise mess with a guest's meal for any reason. There are other ways to take revenge that aren't health hazards. Servers don't mess ( Read more... )

My friends and I hit a Thai place in Washington, DC, not a city known for its friendly atmosphere. I ordered som tam, which is like the equivalent of a taco salad for a Tex-Mex restaurant, and can you believe they didn't have any?

But what made it a bad server experience was that the waitress didn't tell me they were out of it until she brought out everyone else's lunch! So everybody else was eating by the time I made my replacement order, and they were done by the time I got my food. Talk about a zero tip. If I could have tipped negatively, I would have.

Then there was the time I stopped by a restaurant for quick meal, and ordered a sandwich. After I ordered, the waitress didn't return for 30 minutes! Not even to apologize for whatever was taking so long. I have no idea when she actually did return, because I simply left.

When I was working at a more upscale restaurant, I DID actually see someone drop some bread on the floor and then put it back onto the plate it fell off of. But that was the only time I've seen someone do anything gross.

I've had slow-ass servers and those who forgot I was there, but nothing so horrible that it really stands out in my memory- guess I'm lucky :)

This place had amazing service. A bit slow, but totally understandable considering the owner was the only employee there. I felt so welcomed I almost began to think that the woman was my grandmother or something!

I try to tip but only when the service is decent. Doesn't have to be great but getting my food before I can see the salmonella colonies is a plus! *L ( ... )

Best service for me was, surprisingly, at Pizza Hut a couple months ago. My Downs brother was with me, and I always judge the waitress on how they interact with him - if they treat him like a person and try to listen to what he asks for, I'm happy. It's that important to me ( ... )

Once when I was a kid I went to a nice French restaurant in Montreal with my parents. I couldn't really deal with the menu, and there wasn't going to be anything I could eat anyway, so my parents asked and the restaurant produced steak and fries for me. Now that I think about it, I imagine it was on the menu, or something like it ( ... )
