D.Gray-Man!

I gotta be honest: I can't say that I've read a whole lot of fanfiction for D.Gray-man. The fandom is very immature and very shippy, and I don't go in for that kind of stuff much. So.

Moving Forward by metisket - right after Cross dies, Timcampi(!?) tells the story of what happened to Allen, Kanda, Rinali, and Lavi. I wasn't sure what to make of Tim as the POV character, but this fic is quite beautiful. It's also awkward and sad.

Once More, With Feeling by tristefic - this is a funny 'novelization' of the omake where Allen is forced to work in the kitchen for Jerry. Hilarious and lighthearted with just a touch of shounen-ai, I really enjoyed this story.

I have the horrible feeling there was a casefic out there that I really loved and have since lost the link to. >___>;;

The Weakening Eye of Day by fallia - ASG and I fundamentally disagree on some aspects of Allen's characterization, but I really love how she writes. This Kanda/Allen fic is rated NC-17, but it's a bit plotty and I like the setting. Nice imagery.

Oh, you shouldn't be scared of the fandom! .... no wait I take that back, you should be scared of the fandom. But actually you can avoid the batshit crazy pretty easily. spn_gen, spngenlove, spn_castiel, and spn_heavymeta are all fairly wank-free places. Despite the crazy that lies heavy upon the fandom, there's massive amounts of great picspams, excellent meta, and fantastic fanfiction. Frankly, it's quite spoiled me, and now the DW fandom makes me sad because it lacks the meta.

Anyway! On to the recs.

Angels We Have Heard by unoshot - The last part of an excellent trilogy (although it stands alone), this fic is a beautiful rendition of Castiel's search for God. It has spoilers for 5.10, so be warned. Actually, everything by this author is simply amazing; I swear she consults with Castiel before writing, her characterization of him is so spot-on.

Ten Going On Thirteen by dodger_winslow - John, six-year-old Sammy and 10-year-old Dean get into a dodgy situation, resulting in John depending on Dean to survive. This fic also has a companion piece, Stay, which covers the action from a

I probably shouldn't rec you to yourself, huh. XD;; While the meme says 'three best fics you've ever read', I honestly picked out three favorites that I thought there was a good chance you hadn't yet read rather than the best, since the ones I would have chosen you just recced to me. XD;

Lesser Deities by Talia Ali - A story about Yami, Joey, and a toaster. This fic makes me laugh, and it always makes me happy when Jounouchi gets to one-up the Pharaoh.

Amuletic by DragonDancer5150 - I tend to think it's a wee bit OOC, but I love Dragon's characterization of Dark Yuugi nonetheless. All of her AU fic are fun rides.

Spirit by LittleKuriboh - Did you know that LK is a fanfic writer, too!? I know I was (pleasantly) surprised! This fic is doomed to never be complete, I'm sure, but I find myself going back to it time and time again. I love his Yuugi especially, because he characterizes Yuugi as the stronger half of the Dark/normal Yuugi. :)

Addicted to Death by Sinnatious - Okay, this one is technically a Death Note/xXxHolic crossover. It's from Light's POV, actually. But holy crap, it's just amazing. I love the outside!POV characterization of Watanuki.

More Full of Weeping by lunargeography - this fic will never be finished, so don't look for a conclusion, but it will take your heart out and stomp on it. A lot. Someone or something has thrown Watanuki into a loony bin, and he's losing his memory.

The Telling of One Billion Ghost Stories Part One and the rest of the parts linked here by rallamajoop - a proper xXxHolic/Tsubasa crossover, this post-apocalyptic AU is a great read. Rallamajoop has a real talent for AU fic.

Other authors to check out include lazulisong, whose style is uniquely suited to CLAMP fic, laurus_nobilis for her Clow/Yuuko fic, and elihice for some nice light reads.
