Nothing especially new. Went to an amazing Greek Festival this weekend and ate a ton of food and drank Greek beer. It was a great way to end my one-week break before summer school which starts today at 6:00pm. I am not looking forward to it, but it's only 6 weeks so it will probably be over in the blink of an eye ( Read more... )

My suggestion is to plan it yourself. Get some Lonely Planet travel guides and see what interests you. I've never been on a tour so maybe it's cooler than I'm imagining, but if you plan it yourself you have SO much flexibility. Including days off to just hang out on an awesome beach you find or whatever. Or if you decide that you are in love with Greece and want to stay an extra day you can... you get my drift.

They're different experiences. With a tour, you don't have to be responsible for anything, which can be nice. No worrying about booking hotel rooms, siteseeing, transportation, etc. Usually even some of the meals are planned. You also will probably have a reasonably knowledgeable guide who can tell you stuff about the places you're seeing that you might not otherwise have known. You also won't have to deal as much with language barriers. They might take you somewhere really awesome that you wouldn't have known to go yourself ( ... )

The pros of a tour: They take you to all the big places and will have a guide take you around and talk to you about it which is actually nice sometimes when you go to a site you don't really know anything about. They also will probably have you stay in nicer hotels, not five star or anything but not a hostel, and they'll do all the transportation. The other good thing is that you're in a group with a bunch of people, so you usually make some friends and have people to go party with every night ( ... )

Lindsey, I don't really have much to add except that if Elyse and I can plan a trip 3 weeks in advance from two different countries, you can totally do it yourself! Plus, if you end up wanting to make a last minute change (finding out your hostel is nasty or staying an extra week in France), it's not as difficult.

Rosie: I met this girl in Alumni Chorus who runs a website with her husband: http://www.honeyfund.com/
Instead of registering for a bunch of kitchen stuff and sheets, you can have people get bits and pieces of your honeymoon (a travel pillow, part of your plane ticket, a night at a hotel etc. etc.). It's worth checking out.
