Water will be shown at a Finnish film festival

fivil just informed me that Deepa Mehta's Water will be shown at this year's Woman or Artichoke Film Festival in late February.

From the comments I've seen on the web, the film sounds very interesting. It centers around the treatment of widows in 1930s India through the story of eight-year-old Chuiya who is sent to live in a house for widows.

I still find it so strange that since this movie was made in Canada, I saw it waaaaay before most of the world, INCLUDING India. O_O

Heh, we almost never get to see Indian/part-Indian films in movie theatres outside film festivals, and those aren't arranged that often, so one must take advantage of every opportunity there is.

Very true! It's so great to hear that the movie is doing well critically. :)

I loved Water, and not just because of JA ;) It's very well done and moving, IMHO.

Yes, I've heard good things about the film, though, as a result, some of the plot twists have probably been spoiled for me. Ah well, can't help it. At least I'll get to see the film...
